DANCE LESSONS NEW JOB

London outfit Dance Lessons have released another recording of their self-styled “serrated pop”, which consists of jubilant pop melodies, funk undertones and indie-dance rhythms as you’ll hear in ‘New Job’. It follows their mercurial pop debut ‘SMABTO’, and in the same way as that first single, the synchronised trio examine the messy side of romantic connection. This time around, ‘New Job’ is an accidentally personal pursuit of distraction by front woman Ann following a break-up. As she shares: "New Job has been like a self-fulfilling prophecy. It was never meant to become personal. I initially wrote it late last year – before a break-up. Afterwards, I went on a mad search for new ways to distract myself. The song shows the similarities in perspective of two people post-breakup, both using distractions to mask the sadness." This new song has also been completed by a gorgeous music video that was shot in the midst of the Covid-19 lockdown in Los Angeles by director Sarah Chatfield, who took to the streets with no crew and minimal gear to shoot a breathtaking dance interpretation of ‘New Job’, performed and choreographed by Gbari 'GQ' Gilliam and Shantel Ureña. - Hannah Thacker
